North Dakota AFL-CIO condemns US sanctions on Cuba, urges repeal of Executive Order 14380
The North Dakota Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL‑CIO) approved a resolution rejecting the United States' unilateral coercive measures against Cuba. The resolution calls for the immediate revocation of Executive Order 14380, signed by former President Donald Trump on 29 January, which declared a national emergency concerning Cuba and triggered an oil embargo. It urges the U.S. government and Congress to end the blockade, remove Cuba from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, and pursue normalisation of bilateral relations based on mutual respect and sovereignty.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz‑Canel, speaking at a session of the National Assembly, said only one oil tanker had reached Cuba in the past seven months, contributing to a severe energy crisis that has already caused six total blackouts in 2026. He warned that the collective punishment aims to “provoke a social explosion” and described the economic and social implications as “humanly unbearable.”
