North Darfur displacement rises as security worsens in El Fasher
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported new waves of displacement in North Darfur due to deteriorating security. Between September 16 and 18, an estimated 930 people fled the villages of Halila Umm Qadir and Turra in El Fasher locality, moving toward Tangail locality.
This follows other recent displacements in the region. On September 17, approximately 1,000 people were displaced from three villages in Ambra locality. Earlier, on September 14, 1,180 individuals fled Halla Saleh and Kalkul in El Fasher for similar security reasons. The IOM stated that the situation remains tense and volatile.
The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which began in April 2023, has led to tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of nearly 13 million people across Sudan.
