North Hesse police conduct speed checks near schools

As part of the ‘Blitz for Kids’ initiative, police in North Hesse conducted speed checks near schools and daycare centers to increase awareness of child safety in traffic. Since the end of the summer holidays, authorities monitored 40 locations across the Schwalm-Eder-Kreis, Werra-Meißner-Kreis, Waldeck-Frankenberg, Kassel, and the city of Kassel.

Out of 12,622 vehicles checked, 1,338 drivers were found to be speeding, representing a regional violation rate of 10.6 percent. The Schwalm-Eder-Kreis recorded the highest rate at 27.6 percent, while the district of Kassel had the lowest at 5.8 percent. Two drivers were cited for significantly exceeding speed limits and face potential driving bans in addition to fines and points.

The campaign focuses on prevention, using a system of green and yellow cards. Students and officers award green cards to drivers following speed limits to encourage exemplary behavior, while yellow cards are used to highlight misconduct.
