North Kalimantan border road master plan proposed for 2027–2029
Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian is pushing for accelerated connectivity in the North Kalimantan border region through the development of a Border Road Master Plan for the 2027–2029 period. During a coordination meeting with the North Kalimantan provincial and Malinau regency governments, it was noted that the required budget for this infrastructure project is estimated at approximately Rp32 trillion.
The master plan will outline development stages and infrastructure needs to be presented to the President of Indonesia. North Kalimantan Governor Zainal A. Paliwang emphasized that completing roads and bridges is critical, as several border areas currently rely on air and river transport. This reliance has led to high distribution costs and elevated commodity prices for local communities. Improved land access is expected to reduce logistics expenses and support social and economic mobility in the region.
