North Kalimantan celebrates 14th anniversary with economic growth focus

North Kalimantan (Kaltara) marked its 14th anniversary on October 25, 2026, celebrating its journey since becoming Indonesia's 34th province in 2012. The anniversary theme, “14 Years of Kaltara: Growing Economy, Everyone Empowered,” emphasizes inclusive development and regional welfare.

Economic data from BPS indicates that Kaltara's economy grew by 4.96 percent in the second quarter of 2026, with a cumulative growth of 5.09 percent in the first semester compared to the previous year. The province also achieved its 12th consecutive Unqualified Opinion (WTP) from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK RI) regarding its financial management.

During the celebrations, officials highlighted the province's strategic position as a border region with Malaysia and its historical roots in the Bulungan Sultanate. Leaders called for increased synergy between local and central governments to boost MSMEs, creative economies, and tourism. Additionally, the province is planning to expand traditional sports festivals, including a Borneo-wide blowpipe competition scheduled for 2027.
