North Kalimantan economy remains stable despite stock market volatility
The economy of North Kalimantan is expected to remain stable despite fluctuations in the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IHSG). According to Margiyono, Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Economists Association (ISEI) in North Kalimantan, the regional economy relies on government spending, banking credit, and direct investment rather than capital markets.
Banking credit serves as the dominant financing source in the region, reaching approximately Rp 46 trillion as of July. This significantly exceeds the state budget (APBN) financing, which stands at around Rp 13 trillion. Other key pillars include direct investment, such as the development of the Tanah Kuning Green Industrial Zone.
Separately, North Kalimantan Governor Zainal A. Paliwang is accelerating housing programs from the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP). For 2026, the province has been allocated 3,091 units of Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS), a significant increase from 2025. The provincial government is also allocating local budget funds to support home renovation initiatives.
