North Kalimantan seeks to accelerate Apau Kayan road access

The North Kalimantan Provincial Government is coordinating with PT Tujuan Mulia Makmur (TMM) to accelerate road access to the Apau Kayan region. Vice Governor Ingkong Ala met with PT TMM Director Tiger Chen in Jakarta to discuss concrete steps for improving connectivity in the area, which currently faces significant land access limitations.

Key infrastructure challenges include a 25-kilometer unfinished section of the Long Kemuat–Pujungan road within the 459.18-kilometer national parallel road project. Additionally, the government is pushing the central government to expedite the construction of the 90-kilometer Long Pahangai–Sungai Boh road segment.

To facilitate immediate maintenance, the provincial government has proposed that the road segment from Km 122 to Km 147, located on the border of East and North Kalimantan, be integrated into the provincial road network. This would allow the use of the regional budget (APBD) for upkeep while awaiting national-level intervention. The provincial government is also exploring cooperation with PT TMM to maintain these critical routes to ensure smooth logistics and community access.
