North Kivu sees intensified rebel fighting and calls for stronger anti‑ADF offensive
Traditional chiefs in the Beni territory gathered under the Alliance of Traditional Authorities of Congo and urged the provincial governor to intensify military operations against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), which have long plagued eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. They also announced the creation of the Cooperative Agricultural of Congo Traditional Chiefs (COAPCC) to boost food production and economic recovery.
At the same time, heavy clashes have erupted in Masisi, North Kivu, as the M23 rebel group (AFC‑M23) attacks several Wazalendo militias, including the Lamuka movement, APCLS, and PARECO. The fighting, marked by heavy weapons exchanges, threatens civilian safety, displaces populations and disrupts agriculture and local commerce around the Rubaya mine and Ngungu market.
