North Korea announces resumption of border propaganda broadcasts

North Korean official Kim Yo-jong has announced that the country will resume using propaganda loudspeakers along the border with South Korea. The deployment is expected to be operational within days or by the end of October.

Kim Yo-jong characterized the move as an “appropriate response” to alleged provocations by the South Korean military, including warning shots. She further warned that South Korea would face a “most horrible and distressing situation” if it continues what Pyongyang describes as interference in its internal affairs.

Tensions have escalated following a September landmine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that injured three South Korean soldiers. While Seoul accused North Korean troops of deliberately planting the mines during fortification work, Pyongyang has dismissed the incident as a South Korean fabrication.

In response to the rising friction, South Korea has proposed military talks to confirm the precise location of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) and restore communication channels to prevent accidental clashes. The South Korean Ministry of National Defense has indicated it would consider proportional measures if North Korea resumes its broadcasts.
