North Korea declares its nuclear status irreversible after trilateral summit

North Korea said its nuclear posture is irreversible, describing it as a "line of no return" and stating that denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula is "a matter that has been permanently lost". The declaration came after a three‑way meeting in Tokyo of South Korea, Japan and the United States, where the allies reaffirmed their commitment to complete denuclearisation of the peninsula.

A KCNA spokesperson said U.S. rhetoric and weapons sales to Seoul and Tokyo cannot change North Korea’s nuclear position, portraying the program as a strong security guarantee for regional stability. The statement referenced the acceleration of the nuclear programme since stalled talks in 2019, noted recent meetings between Kim Jong Un and Chinese President Xi Jinping, and highlighted that official media reports omitted any reference to denuclearisation.
