North Korea demands respect from South Korea for dialogue
Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has called on South Korea to demonstrate 'the utmost respect' toward Pyongyang if it hopes to resume diplomatic dialogue. In an official statement, she asserted that for relations to be restored, South Korea must consider the feelings of the other side in every statement and action, showing 'maximum respect, maximum appreciation, and maximum sincerity.'
This demand follows tensions regarding landmine explosions in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on September 21, which injured three South Korean soldiers. South Korean military officials have accused North Korea of placing these mines on the southern side of the demarcation line, a violation of the armistice that ended the Korean War. While North Korea has denied all responsibility for the explosions, the South Korean government under President Lee Jae Myung has called for the restoration of trust and the resumption of dialogue.
Kim Yo Jong criticized the South Korean authorities' actions as 'unilateral judgments, unilateral decisions, and unilateral announcements,' labeling the leadership as either 'politically immature' or 'incorrigible fools.'
