North Korea disputes Trump claims of contact with Kim Jong-un
Donald Trump has expressed a desire to hold a face-to-face meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un before the end of the year, describing their previous communications as ‘very positive’. Trump asserted that his personal relationship with Kim has helped maintain regional security and prevented large-scale military provocations in East Asia.
In response to these diplomatic signals, the United States and South Korea have confirmed a reduction in the scale and duration of their joint military exercises. This adjustment follows an executive order from Trump aimed at revitalizing dialogue with Pyongyang.
However, North Korea has publicly disputed claims of recent contact. Kim Yo-jong, a high-ranking official and sister of Kim Jong-un, stated via the state news agency KCNA that she has no knowledge of any recent communication between the two leaders. Furthermore, she dismissed the significance of the reduced military drills, characterizing the exercises as ‘provocative and offensive’ regardless of their diminished magnitude.
