North Korea expands missile launch facilities near Wonsan
Satellite imagery analysis indicates that North Korea has significantly expanded missile launch facilities near the Anbyeon coastal area in Anbyeon County, close to Wonsan. According to reports from the North Korea specialist outlet NK Pro, which utilized Planet Labs imagery, a newly constructed inspection building has had its length nearly doubled. The structure is believed to be large enough to facilitate missile loading onto Transporter Erector Launchers (TEL) or to conduct vertical launch testing.
In addition to the building expansion, new roads have been constructed to improve access for heavy military vehicles like TELs, and parking areas have undergone recent paving. The expansion suggests North Korea may be transitioning the site from a temporary testing location into a permanent, regular missile base.
Analysis of state media photos suggests that Kim Jong Un and his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, have recently observed missile tests from this vicinity. Specifically, reflections in a television screen during a reported test match the location of a circular building near the expanded facilities. This circular structure also underwent a size increase in September 2025, and was equipped with multi-level mobile trailers, potentially serving as an observation post for leadership.
