North Korea pushes secret submarine weapons while reaffirming non‑negotiable nuclear stance

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un announced a program to develop secret underwater weapons as part of a broader effort to modernise the country’s navy. During a review of the Kang Kon destroyer’s sea trials, he called for accelerated construction of the vessel and the integration of new submarine‑type armaments that would enhance the navy’s ability to deliver strikes from beneath the surface and support the nation’s nuclear deterrent.

Kim Yo Jong, the leader’s sister, issued a separate statement declaring that North Korea’s nuclear weapons programme is “not negotiable” and that the country will not tolerate any external threats. Her remarks, published in the state newspaper Rodong Sinmun ahead of a planned visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping, underline a continued commitment to retain and expand the nuclear arsenal despite United Nations sanctions.
