North Korea rejects sanctions and asserts nuclear status

North Korea has denounced a joint statement by the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team (MSMT), labeling it a “flagrant violation of its sovereignty.” The MSMT, which includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and South Korea, called on UN member states to fully implement sanctions resolutions regarding North Korean military cooperation and the use of North Korean workers.

A spokesperson for the North Korean Foreign Ministry stated that while sanctions and pressure might affect the weak, they will never alter the nation’s status as a nuclear-armed state. Pyongyang attributed the monitoring efforts to the hostile policies of the United States and the West.

The international community, through UN Security Council resolutions, continues to seek the complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, targeting the country’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
