North Korea rejects South Korean dialogue, Indonesia's mediation rebuffed

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said North Korea continues to refuse any direct talks, making a meeting at the United Nations General Assembly unlikely. He noted that Pyongyang’s stance leaves little chance for a diplomatic breakthrough this autumn, despite Seoul’s efforts through multilateral forums and third‑party contacts.

Indonesia had offered to facilitate a dialogue between the two Koreas, but Cho confirmed that North Korea turned down the proposal. The rejection follows recent statements by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who pledged to help open communication channels, and comes amid broader regional concerns about stability on the Korean Peninsula.
