North Korea using Ukraine war experience to upgrade weaponry
Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Ukrainian President's office, stated that North Korea is utilizing combat experience gained from the war in Ukraine to advance its own military capabilities. This includes the adoption of new weapon types, some of which are of Russian origin, and the establishment of mass production for one-time use strike drones.
Budanov noted that beyond supplying weapons and materials to Russia, North Korea is deploying its own soldiers to participate directly in the conflict. Following reports from Ukrainian and American officials, Pyongyang officially acknowledged the involvement of its troops in the war on Russia's side in April 2025. Data suggests thousands of North Korean soldiers have been deployed in Russia, including in the Kursk region.
Budanov warned that North Korea's increasing militarization threatens stability on the Korean Peninsula. He cautioned that any incident on the dividing line between North and South Korea could trigger a wider, uncontrolled escalation.
