North Korean troops cross Military Demarcation Line on eastern and western fronts
North Korean troops have crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) on both the eastern and western fronts, prompting the South Korean military to issue warning broadcasts and warning shots. The Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed that the military is maintaining a firm combat readiness posture while closely monitoring North Korean movements.
This recent activity follows North Korea’s ongoing efforts to fortify its borders, which includes clearing vegetation, leveling terrain, planting mines, and installing fences and tactical roads. Following Kim Jong Un’s declaration of a ‘hostile two-state relationship’ in late 2023, these fortification efforts have intensified. Military experts express concern that as North Korean infrastructure moves closer to the MDL, the likelihood of direct confrontations between North and South Korean troops increases.
