North Macedonia adopts long-term mineral resource strategy through 2046

The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources has announced a long-term strategy for geological exploration and the sustainable exploitation of mineral resources in North Macedonia for the period 2026–2046.

The plan aims to transform the country's geological potential into industrial development, new jobs, and increased economic value. North Macedonia possesses diverse resources, including lead, zinc, copper, gold, antimony, nickel, marble, travertine, granite, and limestone. A primary objective is to ensure a greater portion of economic value is created domestically by linking mining to local production and developing processing capacities.

Developed in collaboration with the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the strategy aligns with European policies, specifically the European Critical Raw Materials Act. This alignment is intended to integrate North Macedonia more deeply into European industrial supply chains while establishing higher standards for environmental protection, transparency, and public interest.
