Sharr Mountains rescue: Two Czech hikers saved in cross-border operation

Two Czech hikers were successfully rescued from Piribeg Peak in the Sharr Mountains following a coordinated emergency operation between North Macedonia and Kosovo. The individuals, identified as N. F. (born 1986) and K. M. (born 2004), had sought shelter in a mountain facility near the border after being caught in severe weather, including heavy rain and dense fog.

The rescue was complicated by the terrain; access from the North Macedonian side required a six-hour trek on foot, and helicopter intervention was impossible due to visibility. Consequently, the Crisis Management Center coordinated with the Kosovo Mountain Rescue Service (ShKShMK) to execute the extraction via a more accessible route from the Brezovica ski center in Kosovo.

After receiving the emergency call at 08:22, authorities established direct communication with the hikers. By 16:50, officials confirmed that both hikers were in good health and had been safely transported to Shtërpcë, Kosovo.
