North Macedonia Assembly approves higher pay coefficients for Constitutional Court
The Assembly's Commission for Issues of Elections and Appointments has unanimously adopted amendments to increase the salary coefficients for the President and judges of the Constitutional Court. Under the new proposal, the coefficient for the President of the Constitutional Court will rise from 2.81 to 3.08, while the coefficient for judges will increase from 2.60 to 2.85.
These changes follow a June 17, 2026, decision by the Constitutional Court, which struck down specific parts of the Law on Salaries and Other Remunerations for Elected and Appointed Persons. The Court argued that the previous regulations treated its members under the same normative regime as other public officials, failing to account for the unique constitutional position and institutional independence of the Constitutional Court.
The new coefficients are scheduled to take effect with the October 2026 salary payments. The Commission's action follows a period in which the Assembly was tasked with addressing the Court's legal findings regarding the judicial pay structure.
