North Macedonia wage growth and political tensions
In North Macedonia, data from the State Statistical Office shows the average monthly net salary reached 48,733 denars in August 2026, a 7.6% increase compared to August 2025. Computer programmers remain the highest-paid professionals with an average salary of 110,468 denars. The minimum net wage has also seen significant growth, rising from 22,567 denars in 2024 to 26,046 denars in 2026. Political organization VREDI noted that this nominal increase of 3,479 denars represents a 67% higher growth rate compared to the 2016-2018 period.
Simultaneously, political tensions have escalated between the ruling SDSM and the opposition VMRO-DPMNE. Following election results in Brvenica, VMRO-DPMNE has accused Venko Filipče of failing to publish promised polls that allegedly showed rising support for SDSM. The opposition claims the Brvenica results represent a significant political blow to SDSM, asserting a 4-to-1 loss in that area, while claiming President Hristijan Mickoski maintains a 7-to-1 advantage over Filipče.
