North Macedonia Army celebrates 34th anniversary and NATO integration
The Army of the Republic of North Macedonia celebrated its 34th anniversary on August 18, marking its evolution into a modern, NATO-interoperable force. Celebrations included ceremonial artillery fire at the ‘Ilinden’ barracks in Skopje, military parades in Štip, and a central ceremony in Ohrid.
President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova emphasized the military’s role as a factor of stability and security within NATO. Defense Minister Vlado Misajlovski highlighted ongoing modernization efforts, including the delivery of JLTV and Stryker armored vehicles, the Boran artillery system, and Mistral 3 air defense systems.
The military continues to fulfill international obligations, with over 180 personnel deployed in missions across Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Lebanon, as well as the NATO mission to support Ukraine. The Army also remains prepared for domestic support during natural disasters, such as wildfire response.
