North Macedonia celebrates 35 years of independence

North Macedonia is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its independence, marked by historical reflection and diplomatic commemorations.

In Paris, the Macedonian diaspora gathered at the embassy for a formal reception to honor the national day. The event included representatives from the diplomatic corps, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and UNESCO. Ambassador Igor Nikolov addressed the attendees, highlighting the historical significance of the September 8 referendum and expressing a vision for North Macedonia as a stable, prosperous European state. During the ceremony, Professor Ziad Massi was awarded a certificate designating him as a visiting professor at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje.

Reflecting on the 35-year period, economic and social analyses compare the development of the Macedonian economy with other former Yugoslav republics, including Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Kosovo. These assessments utilize data from international institutions such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the United Nations to evaluate the country's progress since independence.
