North Macedonia collects 1.2 billion denars in mineral resource concessions

The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources in North Macedonia reported that concession fees for natural resource use reached approximately 1.222 billion denars in 2025. This represents an increase of over 660 million denars compared to the 561.5 million denars collected in 2024.

The rise in revenue is attributed to a new tariff schedule implemented on January 1, 2025, which increased concession fees for metallic mineral resources from 2% to 4% and for marble from 1% to 5%. The Ministry also noted that increased field inspections, written warnings, and more decisive actions against non-compliant concessionaires contributed to the higher collection rates.

In addition to revenue growth, the Ministry reported the termination of 53 concession agreements. To strengthen oversight, the inspection capacity will be expanded with three additional inspectors in 2026. Furthermore, a new Strategy for Geological Research and Sustainable Use and Exploitation of Mineral Raw Materials for the period 2026–2046 has been adopted to align economic goals with environmental protection.
