North Macedonia consumer basket price decrease reported
The North Macedonian government has reported that the monthly consumer basket decreased by 358 denars for September. This calculation includes 11 categories and 101 food products, utilizing data from the State Statistical Office across eight cities, 23 fruit and vegetable markets, and several large and regional retail chains.
Significant variations in calculations were noted in food and beverages, clothing, footwear, education, housing, and utilities. Minister Durmishi stated that the government is monitoring price movements and pressure on family budgets, noting that current inspections have not shown an increase in retail margins.
Inflation is currently reported at 2.7 percent. The government indicated it may intervene through excise taxes and duties if diesel prices rise significantly. Additionally, with European Union support under the Reform Agenda, work will begin after the New Year to develop a minimum consumer basket, as well as specific baskets for students, pensioners, and various household types.
