North Macedonia customs dismantle drug ring with 79 kg marijuana seizure

The Customs Administration of North Macedonia has dismantled an international criminal group involved in illegal drug trafficking. Following intelligence-led operations, authorities intercepted a truck at the Dojran border crossing while it was attempting to exit the country.

Officers seized 79 kilograms of marijuana that was reportedly destined for the Turkish market. The investigation revealed that the truck, driven by a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, had originally entered North Macedonia carrying iron profiles intended for transport to Greece. During its stay, the cargo was replaced with drugs at a prearranged location through an agreement with individuals in North Macedonia. The vehicle was then sealed with a plug held by the driver to facilitate the transit.

Five individuals have been detained, and criminal charges have been filed for the unauthorized production and distribution of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and precursors. A pre-investigation procedure is ongoing in cooperation with the Public Prosecutorial Office to identify all participants in the smuggling operation.
