North Macedonia Customs introduces body cameras at border crossings

The Customs Administration of North Macedonia has officially introduced body cameras for officers at the Tabanovce, Blace, and Kyafasan border crossings. The equipment, consisting of 30 cameras and supporting infrastructure, was donated by the U.S. Department of Justice through the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP).

Customs Director Boban Nikolovski stated that the system is intended to increase transparency, prevent corruption, and protect both officers and citizens. The footage recorded by the cameras can be used as evidence in misdemeanor and criminal proceedings. The initiative aims to modernize the institution and ensure professional standards are met during interactions with travelers and economic operators.

Nicole Warns, acting head of the U.S. Embassy mission, noted that the donation reflects the U.S. government's commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and building efficient relationships with allies by promoting sustainability and effective resource use.
