North Macedonia Customs receives 4 million euro EU investment

The North Macedonian Customs Administration has received a 4 million euro investment to modernize its operations, funded by the European Union through four separate projects. The new equipment was presented at the Tabanovce customs terminal in the presence of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, and the EU Ambassador.

The upgrade includes advanced anti-smuggling technology, forensic tools, and new IT infrastructure designed to identify high-risk shipments more rapidly. Additionally, the Customs Administration has acquired 26 specialized vehicles, including units for mobile and K9 teams, as well as a vehicle for transporting temporarily detained individuals.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski emphasized that the goal is to make criminal activity unprofitable, warning against institutional complicity in crime. EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas noted the economic importance of the investment, aiming to secure borders and facilitate faster goods movement, particularly through ‘green corridors.’ Minister of Finance Gordana Dimitrieska-Kocoska highlighted the customs' role in state revenue, noting that import duties collected in the first eight months reached nearly 10.5 billion denars, a 9.7 percent increase compared to the previous year.
