North Macedonia customs seize cancer medication worth 5,400 euros
Customs officials at the Bogorodica border crossing in North Macedonia intercepted a shipment of cancer medication valued at 336,000 denars (approximately 5,400 euros). The drugs, identified as Xgeva solution used for treating malignant diseases, were discovered hidden inside a first aid kit on a bus entering the country.
In addition to 29 vials of the medical solution, officers found 29 boxes and 30 adhesive labels packed in a black nylon bag. The Customs Administration noted that the import of such medication is strictly regulated and requires specific permits. They emphasized that unauthorized transport of medical products poses significant risks to public health due to potential safety and storage violations.
A criminal complaint for smuggling has been filed against the bus driver, a Kosovar citizen. The Customs Administration reported that mobile teams and border officers have seized more than 30,000 pieces of medication throughout 2024.
