North Macedonia: Experts recommend mixing wood types for winter heating
Forestry engineer Marjan Partalloski advises households in North Macedonia to combine different types of wood for more efficient winter heating. Specifically, he recommends mixing beech and hornbeam wood. According to Partalloski, while one type may burn faster, the other helps maintain embers for longer periods.
Experts emphasize that wood should be harvested between November and March when vegetation is dormant, and must be thoroughly dried throughout the year before use. While white birch has the highest caloric power, beech and hornbeam remain among the most sought-after varieties for domestic heating.
Data from the State Statistical Office indicates that firewood remains a primary energy source for heating in the country, though some citizens have transitioned to electricity.
