North Macedonia extends oil crisis state until April 2027
The Macedonian Parliament has voted to extend the state of crisis for oil and petroleum derivatives for an additional six months, moving the expiration date from October 20, 2026, to April 20, 2027. The decision was passed with 70 votes in favor and no opposition.
The government cited ongoing risks of market instability, potential supply disruptions, and import blockages as the primary reasons for the extension. This measure aims to allow state institutions to maintain mechanisms for rapid response to significant price shocks or delivery issues on international markets.
To mitigate the impact of high fuel costs on citizens and the economy, the government has implemented tax interventions, including reducing the VAT on diesel from 18% to 10% and lowering excise duties on both gasoline and diesel. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski previously indicated that the crisis state could be lifted sooner if international market conditions stabilize.
