North Macedonia faces lottery trial and demographic decline

North Macedonia is facing significant legal and demographic challenges. A court trial is beginning regarding the ‘State Lottery’ case, which involves approximately 8 million euros.

Simultaneously, the country is experiencing a severe demographic decline. Official data indicates that in 2025, there were 15,850 live births compared to 20,287 deaths, resulting in a natural population loss of 4,437 people. This trend is compounded by low birth rates and emigration, leading to an aging population and a shrinking workforce that poses long-term economic risks.
