North Macedonia forest police seize 500 cubic meters of illegal timber
Forest police in North Macedonia have conducted intensified operations against illegal logging across the country. Between September and early October, authorities seized over 500 cubic meters of illegally cut timber and filed 140 reports.
During these operations, officials temporarily confiscated 13 trucks, 17 passenger vehicles, and nine tractors, along with tools such as chainsaws, trailers, and axes used for illegal logging and transport. The actions specifically target areas where organized groups are active and aim to prevent illegal wood supplies from reaching the population and industrial capacities.
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy, Borche Serafimovski, stated that these intensified actions will continue nationwide, emphasizing that forest protection is a public interest and an institutional responsibility. Ahead of the heating season, the Ministry has urged citizens to purchase firewood only from licensed sellers to help prevent illegal trade.
