North Macedonia Health Ministry orders expert review of Strumica birth case

The Ministry of Health announced that the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate carried out extraordinary inspections at General Hospital Strumica, Clinical Hospital Shtip and the University Clinic for Neurology, where 19‑year‑old patient S. M. was examined, gave birth and received treatment. A specialist committee comprising neurologists, anesthesiologists, gynecologists, radiologists and neurosurgeons was formed, and the minister requested the inclusion of a medical expert from a neighbouring country to ensure an independent assessment. The committee will review all medical records and issue an opinion; the Ministry will inform the public of its findings after the review is completed.

The inspections and the formation of the expert panel aim to determine whether any medical error occurred during the patient’s care and to guide further treatment decisions.
