North Macedonia health officials hold panel on cardiovascular disease prevention

To mark World Heart Day, the Macedonian Association of Cardiology, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Skopje, and the European Union Delegation to North Macedonia, organized an educational panel at Europe House Skopje.

The panel, themed ‘Don’t miss a single heartbeat’, aimed to raise public awareness regarding the severity of cardiovascular diseases and the necessity of early prevention. Speakers included Health Minister Sasho Klekovski, WHO Head of Office Dr. Akim Ali, EU Delegation Head Roberta Cortese, and cardiology experts Prof. Dr. Irena Mitevska and Prof. Dr. Lidija Poposka.

Participants emphasized that cardiovascular diseases remain a critical health challenge in North Macedonia, accounting for approximately 40% of the country's mortality rate. The discussions highlighted that early diagnosis and risk factor control are essential to reducing the burden on patients, families, and the national healthcare system.
