North Macedonia holiday wage compensation guidelines

With the October 11 holiday falling on a Sunday and October 12 also designated as a non-working day, workers in North Macedonia are entitled to specific wage compensations and bonuses.

In the private economic sector, the Federation of Macedonian Trade Unions (LSM) notes that employees working on a state holiday are entitled to compensation as if they had not worked, plus a 50 percent increase for hours worked. Additionally, for those working on a Sunday, the Law on Labor Relations mandates a minimum 50 percent supplement per hour, along with a weekly rest day within the following seven days.

Public sector employees are similarly entitled to a 50 percent supplement for Sunday work and a 50 percent increase for holiday hours, alongside standard holiday compensation. In the trade sector, a special regime applies where workers permitted to work on Sundays and holidays may receive a supplement of at least 100 percent.
