North Macedonia Interior Minister Defends Prime Minister Against Illegal Communication Allegations
Interior Minister Panche Toskovski said he is personally convinced that Prime Minister Christian Miccovski would never partake in illegal communications or try to influence a prosecutor’s actions. The comment came during a Channel 5 interview when asked about a reported phone call between Miccovski and public prosecutor Nenad Saveski concerning the “Mazut” investigation, which opposition parties have alleged involved collusion. Toskovski emphasized that the state has mechanisms to address any breaches of prosecutorial independence, citing past disciplinary actions against former officials. He added that no individual or institution is protected from criminal accountability, regardless of political affiliation, and declined to discuss details of ongoing pre‑investigative cases, urging institutions to handle them independently.
