North Macedonia introduces new gambling license regulations
The Ministry of Finance in North Macedonia has introduced a new rulebook to implement the Law on Games of Chance and Entertainment, which was passed in late June. This regulation focuses on establishing the reputation, integrity, and source of funds for legal and natural persons applying for licenses to operate casinos, betting shops, slot clubs, or closed-type tombolas.
Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoška stated that the rulebook converts legal principles into concrete procedures and criteria. Applicants must provide documentation to verify their background, including any professional bans or previous penalties for organizing gambling activities. The regulation also mandates strict oversight regarding the origin of capital and the monitoring of cash movements.
The Ministry noted that further regulations are being prepared to ensure full implementation of the law. The primary objectives of these measures are to provide greater citizen protection, increase industry oversight, and ensure more responsible operations within the gambling sector.
