Blerim Isufaj dismissed as Chief Prosecutor of Kosovo's Special Prosecution
The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPK) has dismissed Blerim Isufaj from his position as Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution. The decision, passed with six votes in favor and one against, was based on findings of mismanagement, incompetence, failure to fulfill legal duties, and failure to meet required performance standards. The KPK stated that the decision was based on professional and institutional circumstances rather than political considerations.
Dren Paca has been appointed as the acting Chief Prosecutor until the position is permanently filled. Following the dismissal, Isufaj will continue to serve as a prosecutor within the Special Prosecution.
The move has sparked significant political debate in Kosovo. Opposition figures, including Ramuš Haradinaj and Lutfi Haziri, characterized the dismissal as political revenge and an attack on judicial independence. Avdullah Hoti also suggested the dismissal was an attempt by Prime Minister Albin Kurti to exert control over the justice system.
Separately, the Special Prosecution has announced the suspension of investigations against former Infrastructure Minister Liburn Aliu regarding allegations of misusing his official position to waive water tax debts for packaging companies.
