North Macedonia invests 85.5 million euros in student dormitory renovations

North Macedonia has launched an 85.56 million euro project to rehabilitate student dormitories and resource centers to improve energy efficiency and living conditions. The initiative aims to benefit more than 5,000 students and pupils by modernizing facilities that were largely constructed in the 1950s and 1960s.

The project covers 16 educational and residential buildings, including nine state student dormitories, six resource centers for students with disabilities, and one high school dormitory. These facilities are located across Skopje, Ohrid, Bitola, Prilep, Štip, Strumica, and Veles.

Funding for the reconstruction includes 60 million euros in loans from the German development bank KfW, provided in two phases, and approximately 21 million euros in grant support from European Union programs. The Ministry of Education and Science is also contributing funds. The reconstruction will address structural stability, electrical and sanitary installations, heating, insulation, and safety systems, with a goal to complete the works by the end of 2031.
