North Macedonia invests in school infrastructure and STEM education reforms

North Macedonia is implementing significant educational reforms and infrastructure upgrades. A three-million-euro project is underway to reconstruct sports facilities and provide new equipment for 30 primary and secondary schools. This initiative is co-financed by the Ministry of Education and Science, the Western Balkans Investment Framework, and the Council of Europe Development Bank.

Simultaneously, a major reform in vocational education is being introduced. Approximately 10,800 first-year vocational students will begin learning under modernized curricula that emphasize STEM competencies, digital skills, and green practices. Supported by UNICEF, the Swedish government, and the private sector, the reform aims to prepare students for a changing labor market driven by technological advancement and the green transition. The program includes training for 569 teachers to ensure students can apply sustainable practices across various sectors, such as economics and tourism.
