Macedonia's June inflation eases to 0.5% monthly deflation

Official statistics show that Macedonia's consumer price index fell 0.5% in June compared with May, marking a monthly deflation. The biggest drops were recorded in transport (‑1.6%) and food and non‑alcoholic beverages (‑1.1%).

Despite the monthly decline, prices remain higher than a year earlier, with overall inflation at 3.4% year‑on‑year and retail prices up 3.6% over the same period. Increases were noted in recreation, sport and culture (+1.4%), personal care and social protection (+0.5%), and household equipment and services (+0.3%).

Analysts note that part of the price rise stems from widened profit margins rather than higher procurement costs. The government plans further market monitoring and possible measures to curb unjustified margin hikes.
