North Macedonia: Left party files interpellation against Energy Minister
The political party Levica has submitted an interpellation to the Assembly of North Macedonia regarding the performance of the Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Božinovska.
Levica accuses the Minister of mismanagement within the energy sector, alleging that state-owned enterprises like ESM are accumulating new debts while electricity is being sold below production costs. The party claims that while private entities under EVN generate millions in profit, citizens face rising electricity, heating, and fuel bills.
Further allegations include the lack of transparency regarding the state's 10% stake in EVN Macedonia and the awarding of framework agreements worth nearly 2 billion denars to a single bidder, Toplina. The party also highlighted discrepancies in renewable energy licensing, noting that over 1,040 producers hold licenses while the Ministry only records 525. Additionally, Levica raised concerns over the lack of funding for the Čebren hydroelectric plant in the 2025 and 2026 budgets and the transfer of wind energy locations to foreign investors without public financial disclosures.
