North Macedonia Ministry of Environment launches digital initiative
Muhamet Hoxha, the Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, has introduced the “Green Turn through Digitalization” initiative. The program consists of five modules designed to increase transparency, improve administrative efficiency, and enhance environmental data management.
Key components include the “Foundations” module, which provides citizens and civil society with access to information regarding ministry projects, funding, and timelines. The “Core” module focuses on digitizing archives and spatial information systems to allow for electronic tracking of cases and identification of responsible officials. This effort is being conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
Additionally, the “Time” module aims to simplify administrative procedures, with 15 of 30 planned steps expected to be completed by the end of the year. The “Land” module will involve the digital mapping of illegal landfills across municipalities to better plan cleanup resources and prepare for the establishment of regional waste management centers.
