North Macedonia MP proposes increased financial aid for newborns

Independent MP Mile Cekov has submitted a proposal to the Assembly to amend the Law on Child Protection, aiming to significantly increase one-time financial assistance for newborns in North Macedonia.

The proposed changes suggest increasing aid for a first child from 5,000 to 18,450 denars, and for a second child from 20,000 to 36,900 denars. Additionally, the proposal introduces a new category of support providing 52,275 denars for twins and for a third or any subsequent child.

The amendment seeks to provide greater material support to families to offset rising living costs and the expenses associated with childbirth and childcare. If passed through the parliamentary procedure, these amounts would represent a substantial increase in support for parents compared to current levels.
