North Macedonia police investigate illegal driver's license scheme
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVR) in North Macedonia is conducting an investigation into a scheme where employees in administrative services allegedly issued fraudulent driver's licenses. The investigation focuses on the illegal addition of C and D categories—permitting the operation of trucks and buses—to individuals who had never passed the required exams.
According to reports, the scheme involved applicants claiming they had lost their original licenses and requesting replacements. During the replacement process, officials would add the higher driving categories to the new document. The service for these illegal additions was reportedly priced at approximately 1,400 euros.
Internal control departments within the MVR are working in coordination with the Skopje Basic Public Prosecutor's Office to determine how many employees were involved and how many fraudulent licenses were issued. Minister of Internal Affairs Pance Toshkovski stated that anyone found abusing their position or working dishonestly will face the strictest legal sanctions.
Some of the suspects are reportedly linked to a previous scandal involving the issuance of fake passports five years ago. The current investigation aims to clarify the extent of the corruption and ensure accountability within the police force.
