North Macedonia commemorates Day of the Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle
North Macedonia is observing October 23, the Day of the Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle, marking the anniversary of the founding of the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization (VMRO) in Thessaloniki in 1893.
National leaders, including President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, issued messages emphasizing the historical significance of the organization's founders—such as Dame Gruev and Dr. Hristo Tatarchev—and their pursuit of autonomy and freedom. Commemorative events include a formal academy at the Macedonian National Theatre and the awarding of the state prize ‘October 23’ for achievements in science and culture.
In a separate diplomatic engagement, President Siljanovska-Davkova attended the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution in Budapest. During her visit, she met with Hungarian President András Baka to discuss deepening bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and North Macedonia’s European integration process, expressing gratitude for Hungary's support for the country's EU aspirations.
