North Macedonia opposition meets on electoral code reform

The opposition coalition in North Macedonia, led by the Levica party and the E Majta grouping, announced a coordinating meeting for tomorrow to align their positions on reforms to the country’s Electoral Code. The parties accuse the governing DPMNE of withdrawing from the legislative process, imposing red lines on diaspora voting and burdening the reform agenda with unrelated issues. The planned meeting aims to produce a joint proposal for a single voting zone – a "unitary vote" – that would ensure equal value for every ballot, reduce lost votes and enable the Parliament to better reflect voters’ will. Organizers hope to present the proposal to the ruling majority before a deadline that affects the disbursement of €4.2 million in EU funds and the required report to the European Commission. Some opposition parties (BDI, ASH, LSH) have signaled limited participation, raising doubts about achieving a full consensus.
