North Macedonia passes Law on State Audit
The Assembly has passed the Law on State Audit, a legislative measure intended to enhance the public finance system and strengthen the institutional independence of the State Audit Office.
The new legal framework aims to increase accountability and transparency in the management of public funds by aligning with international standards. Key provisions include granting the State Audit Office greater autonomy in determining which audits and entities are included in its annual work program.
The law also expands the scope of audits to include entities related to those managing public funds when an economic or financial interest is present. Additionally, the legislation introduces stricter professional criteria for the selection of the Chief State Auditor and their deputy, while focusing on the professionalization of human resources within the office.
